Terms

Last updated 11 September 2026.

Using fractal-chat.com means accepting what is on this page. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

What the service is

Fractal Chat relays your messages to a large language model and shows you the reply, letting you answer inside that reply rather than underneath it. We do not build the models. We do not check whether their answers are correct.

Free credits

Every browser gets a fixed allowance of free credits. Models cost different numbers of credits, listed in the picker, because they cost us different amounts to run. The allowance is per device and there is a daily ceiling per network address, both to stop one person spending the whole budget.

When the credits run out you can still use the site by pasting your own API key. Nothing about the free allowance is a promise: the size of it, the models on offer, and their prices can all change.

Subscribing

A subscription is $9 a month for 2,000 credits, billed by Polar as merchant of record. Credits reset each month and do not roll over. Cancel whenever you like from the portal link on your receipt; you keep the plan until the period you have already paid for runs out.

The first fifty subscribers pay half price, $4.50 a month, and keep that price for as long as the subscription runs. When those fifty places are taken the offer closes and the price is $9. We can change the price, the credit allowance, and the models on offer for future subscribers; a founding price already granted is not taken away.

Your own API key

If you use your own key, you pay your provider directly and their terms apply to that usage. You are responsible for keeping the key safe and for what is spent on it. See Privacy for where it is stored.

Fair use

Do not use the service to:

We can cut off access that does any of this, without warning and without refund.

What you write, and what comes back

Your messages stay yours. We do not store conversations, and we do not train anything on them. Model output is generated text: it can be wrong, confidently. Check anything that matters before acting on it, and do not rely on it for medical, legal, or financial decisions.

No warranty

The service is provided as it is, with no guarantee that it will be available, correct, or fit for any particular purpose. It runs on providers we do not control and it may stop working at any time. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from using it or from being unable to use it.

Changes

These terms can change. The date at the top says when they last did. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the new version.
